Guest
how hard is this? I assume it's worth it but how easy is it to keep all my mods etc.. in place James
CC
I havent looked at MS1 properly, but it wont be a job for the average newbie. From a standard older snapshot to MS1 it wouldnt be easy, but do-able. To go from a modded site to MS1 could well prove tricky! You wll be debugging for sometime to come to get all your mods working again. Maybe you should go thru all your mods packages and check to see if they will be compatible or not first. Otherwise you will have to re-write these slightly too. What have you planned so far in the way of upgrading? CC.
CC
One more thought. In a way of testing... If you have access to a test server, why not copy your site to the test server then begin your upgrade from there and see how you find it on a test basis. Also if you manage to do this successfully, try to document it and put out a contribution on how to complete this task. No doubt there are plenty of users out there who would like to do this also. Waza04
I am really pi**ed off at this!! I cant believe that after spendgin weeks on installing over 100 mods - a new version comes out which means that, All new contribuitions will be for MS1!! I am really annoyed with my self!!!! :onfire:
CC
Well now you have a choice... Do you: a) Continue as you are... B) Try the hard path and try to upgrade and then, if you succeed, you re laughing. c) Start again while you can and just use as much as you have learnt to help you now. The contributions wont be that different really. They will just take a few tweaks to get working. CC.
Waza04
O ymaybe - What if somebody made a simple txt file that shows all the differences between 2.2 and 2.2ms1!! There are only a few changes, I might do thism and then just make the changes to my existing 2.2!!!! If I manage this, I will post it - but it might take me a while!! Dose anybody know of any software that will do a mass file compare?? Thanks, Warren
mattice
CVS is the magic word. But not easy. Please note that 98% of the contributions that worked before MS1 will still work on MS1. BeyondCompare is a nice tool for comparising if you want to avoid CVS. gnehc
I don't know about you ... but when I make modifications to the shop -- I like to document what files I might be changing and HOW. Plus, copy and paste sniplets of code. With your database intact (pretty much) -- you could start work on a new shop version while your live-shop is up and running. Seeing as how it should be able to read the current shop's database ... barring the fact that it might need some update to the mysql database (hopefully that part is easy). I did just that with the snapshots. Started with a april one that was up and running live. 5 months later, upgraded to a september one. I didn't bother to look into upgrading the mysql database during that time ... thank goodness there wasn't any needed (i hope). And, it's been pretty much bugfree. Didn't recall too much work in doing it like that. Though, it's probably not the easiest/best way to update it. But, I didn't want to chance using CVS (not like I know how) to update the files and find out down the road that something wasn't working because I had modified it too many times for CVS to update the file properly. OH - *#&% IT!!!!!!!! No way am I upgrading, I'd never go live!!!!!! I think Harald needs to think of a better upgrade solution!!
