vincentwang Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I had been very confused when installing this widget- ultimate URL SEO. But my programmer had told me that it is not possible to install ultimate URL SEO because my web hosting environment is windows not Linux. I do not know much about this. But I have tried many many times to install this item. Can anyone help out me? Is impossible to install ultimate url seo when web hosting environment is windows? How can i do if i want to install this widget in windows environment?
peter222 Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Ultimate SEO urls requires a .htaccess a windows machine can not work with a .htaccess take a look a SEO-G, this one might work for you, i have no experience with that one
spooks Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 All contribs of this type (including SEO-G) rely on url re-writing through htaccess, ask your host to transfer you to a linux server, if they cant do that, change to a host that provides a proper service. ♥FWR Media Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 The above reply wasn't entirely correct. If your Windows server is running PHP5.2+ you can use the latest Ultimate Seo Urls 5. the support topic is http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/topic/336702-ultimate-seo-urls-5-by-fwr-media/ There is also a post there about using rewrites in Windows but generally windows servers can only use the standard urls not the rewrite urls. standard urls are like .. http://www.mysite.com/index.php/my-great-product-p-22.html (www.mysite.com/index.php/my-great-product-p-22.html) Rewrite urls are like .. http://www.mysite.com/my-great-product-p-22.html (www.mysite.com/my-great-product-p-22.html) Ultimate SEO Urls 5 PRO - Multi Language Modern, Powerful SEO Urls KissMT Dynamic SEO Meta & Canonical Header Tags KissER Error Handling and Debugging KissIT Image Thumbnailer Security Pro - Querystring protection against hackers ( a KISS contribution ) If you found my post useful please click the "Like This" button to the right. But I wonder if SEO-G can be installed under windows serve environment? I checked this widget right now, and it also require .htaccess file. Do this mean that all widget require .htaccess file only work under Linux serve? Also what is the effect if I move my hosting server from windows to linux? Do this a big job only because I want to install a friendly URL widget?
