I have a question regarding the snapshots. My shop is up and running really well. I downloaded a Schnittstellen from the German OSC support webpage. The module I downloaded was written by Author: Thomas Pl?nkers. I wrote him a email telling him that he's module is not working correctly. He wrote me back and quotes "All my contributions are running with snapshot's between 14.01. till 28.01.2002". The question I have on you...

A) If I install the latest snapshot version, will I then be overwritten my current version?

B) Will all the contributions that I've installed on my current version still work after installing the new snapshot?

C) Or the old saying "Don't change a winning team" basically leave it the way it is?

Thanks

It appears this is the price to pay, for a product in development, each new snapshot, will be certain to have some edited files.. a contribution that has be configured to work on an 'older' snapshot, might have problems when applied to a 'newer' snapshot.

Installing the new snapshot WILL overwrite your customized files..

if you let it !

Ive found the best thing is.. if it does what you need, and your happy with it, only update it, if essential !

e.g some sort of security patch plug-up

Thanks for your answer..

So basically the answer is C..

C) Or the old saying "Don't change a winning team" basically leave it the way it is?

Thanks for your advise

To update your store to the milestone release, would require you to upload the catalog directory, and the admin directory, IMHO, as most of the edits will be in the php code of the pages. The database, will most likely have several new elements (ive not checked to see what though).

If you actually run the install.php from the new milestone version, as with all installs, it allows you in turn off the 'test data' so you wouldnt have to have all the default tat going into the database, therefore, it shouldnt 'overwrite' the data in the database, although, if there are different field names etc. you might have some errors related to that.

I suggest you note your customized pages, make backups of them, backup your current database, and then run a fresh install with the milestone version, and edit the new store accordingly.

No real quick shortcuts as far as i can see :?

Thanks for your reply...

Now that I have my own PHP and MySql server setup for testing purposes. I have a couple of question to the mysql techs.

Ive installed the new MS1 version on my test server and see that there a lot of changes made to the new verison, GREAT like DOB field in the customers table and the many others... Well if I take my backup copy from my current stable OSC and restore it into MS1 then the new field are deleted. So how is it possible to import all my customer and orders into the new MS1 without changing the MS1 looks?

Thanks

Steven
