[email protected] Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Hello, I have just joined as a member. It seems that the website provides both software enabling you to set up your online shop and software integrating existing payment gateways with your shop? Is this correct? As so many users are involved, how do administrator determine what users need or might want??

Is this correct? First is correct, yes thats the purpose of this software. Second is correct as long your store is based on osCommerce, you can not take a OsCommerce module to use it with a magento store As so many users are involved, how do administrator determine what users need or might want?? What administrator do you mean? The store or the osCommerce? My community profile | Template system for osCommerce - New: Responsive | Feedback channel

It is oscommerce. How does oscommerce determine what users/stores needs in terms of software? It is great that users can add or modify software but oscommerce definitely plays a role in deciding what software is needed.
Guest Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 osCommerce is just a basic shopping cart. It is up to you to decide how your store will look and what functions you will need to add to it. How it ends up is for you to decide based upon the needs of your store and your knowledge of programming.

Everybody is free to develop any software in any direction as long it follows the osCommerce coding standards. You have to think about osCommerce as a process, not an instance, in this meaning. Anyway, whats your concrete question? My community profile | Template system for osCommerce - New: Responsive | Feedback channel
[email protected] Posted October 7, 2009 Author Posted October 7, 2009 Everybody is free to develop any software in any direction as long it follows the osCommerce coding standards. You have to think about osCommerce as a process, not an instance, in this meaning. Anyway, whats your concrete question? Developing any software involves considerable time and effort and also frightens away those who are not expert in programming. If Oscommerce has a very good knowledge of some common needs of online merchants and provide some software, all merchants need to do is to modify a little bit to cater for their tastes. I am more concerned with managerial issue of oscommerce. I believe that this is what oscommerce has been doing? Or the software here is primarily attributed to members? by the way, while a merchant can use a software at oscommerce to integrate a particular payment method to its store, can a shopping customer download and install a software form oscommerce into their own computer so that whenever he purchases at any store of oscommerce, he can use that particular payment method regardless in which specific store he is shopping?
multimixer Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 You keep thinking about osCommerce like a about a company where people are sitting in an office deciding what should be developed and what not. Apart of the basic software, that is getting developed by the main team (again with support of members) all other features are contributed by members, nobody is telling them what to develop, nobody censor them as long as they follow the coding standards and some other prepositions. People can use this contributions or not, it's up to them, nobody s telling them what to use To your second question: no My community profile | Template system for osCommerce - New: Responsive | Feedback channel
