site1 Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Hello, I installed OSCommerce and after fiddling with it, as in adding categeories, products with images etc., but only a few, what do I do next? My website template is similar to a default wordpress template, so I would like to OSCommerce one to match it, or just use the one that is up now but possibly thin it.
site1 Posted September 22, 2009 Author Posted September 22, 2009 Btw this is my site http://the-deen.co.uk/store/ (please delete link if it's against the rules). What do I do to get that text off the home page? How do I make the site active?

The text you want to get rid of, is telling you how to edit the text. Tim

knifeman Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Thanks, how do I get rid of the dutch and spanish languages and keep it to English only? One of the first things I did after installing my first site was to go through the admin section. I clicked every link in the left column. I read all about what that particular setting does and how it affects my store. Tim
MrPhil Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Some of the products on your front page are the sample products from the demo store. You need to go in and remove those products from the production store (admin section). I suspect that most of your customers are not going to be interested in "There's Something About Mary"! Then you can go into the various language files and adjust the text (you've already done some). The default store installation offers English, German, and Spanish -- look around for instructions on restricting it to just one language (you can also disable or remove the Languages box, so that none of that shows up).

You need to - Remove the stock products Replace OSCommerce logo with your own Get rid of all the clip art style icons Sort out the images with an image contrib that produces thumnails Also, the template you are using is the basic stock template, its not very inspiring and there are tons of stores that look just like that. You really should consider purchasing a template or have one designed for you. PM me for more details if required, its not as expensive as you may think.
site1 Posted September 24, 2009 Author Posted September 24, 2009 Yea with the products and categories I'm working on them, but I think I'll find it easier if I am set with the design first. I have a wesbite and would like the store to match it. What kinda prices am I looking at?
♥14steve14 Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 To make your store look like your website is not that hard. First i would instal a very simple contribution to adjust the width and centre your store using CSS. Adjust the width of your store to the width of your site. Add a background image as you have on your original site, and replace the oscommerce image with the one from your site. Using oscommerces stylesheet alter the colours to match your original site. There you are job done. It sounds easy, and it is, but you will have to sit and read some documents. REMEMBER BACKUP, BACKUP AND BACKUP
site1 Posted September 25, 2009 Author Posted September 25, 2009 Which contribution should I install?

Guest Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 You really need to work your way through the documentation that you got with the download of oscommerce. All the information you need to set up your basic store is in there.
