Spend some time looking around this site too. There's more than just this forum.

http://www.oscommerce.com/downloads/snapshot

Ok, I d/l it and it kinda looks like the folders that I already have. Is this the newest program....2.2?

Next question, how to I open the files.....told ya I am a newbie at this!

I was playing around before and used my FTP and placed the files on the server side (right side of program) and from there I was able to view a few files. But after that, don't know how to set it up.

Thanks again!

2.2 Ians Load4 with a few other mods

and yes I use Dreamweaver

I am waiting on MS1 and then I am starting all over from the Ground up, with some Major addions this time

The code is fine Dawn. Just download it and go for it. I've been using OSC since 1.0 and the CVS is more stable now than it's ever been. No need to wait.

Right the Code is Fine, but MS1 will eb better, and Cleaner.....

and I did not know there was OSC1.0. I thought it is TEP then, hmmm :P

No need to wait for anything if you simply do daily CVS additions like I do. My site is always 100% current. Nothing to it.

Daily CVS.....that doesn't sound simple to me, sounds like a chore. All I am looking for is a working shopping cart. Why do I have to daily CVS?

The Exchange Project. That's what it was before it was renamed to osCommerce.

I've tried Ian's loaded snapshot but to be honest it's a bit much for what I wanted. Too much fluff. Better to start from scratch and add what you want IMHO.

MS1 = Milestone 1 but be warned - it's been coming for a very lonnnnnng time now. You could very well waste a lot of time here waiting for significant events that take a year or more to materialize. Better to just jump on in IMO.

ian is a member here that took a snapshot from NOV and Preinstalled alot of Contributions...

TEP, and "the exchange project" that is what this project use to be called

2.2 is the current one

MS1 is Mile Stone Realese 1 , is the the new develoment realse structure

and it was suppose to be out a week ago, so any time now

As far as doing daily CVS updates that can be very Bad for a Stablity fo a Live store depending on what the changes effect, and the number of modifactions have you done to the core, I have modfied my alot, and some contributions may or may not fuction right with all CVS snap shots...

I know that it used to be the Exchange Project and now osCommerce...but what question you were answering for this reply?

Ok...you sent me to a set to s/l snapshot....is this the 2.2 version. Thought you said that is what you use? Is snapshot different from 2.2?

Every day a new snapshot is automatically created from the most current CVS files. If there are changes that day then the daily snapshot is differeny too to replect those changes. Short answer - yes 2.2 and snapshot are the same.

Concurrent Versioning System (I think). Basically it's a way for every single change to every single file to be documented and allows many people to work on it at the same time.

Nothing automatic about it. I do it the hardcore way though. Most don't keep up with every single change and it's not necessary to us it. Just get the latest and go from there.

So like once a week I can do this and not mess up my coding?

that depends on how much modifaction to the code you do

in all reality if YOU are satified with the performace once your up and running you really dont need to update, Updating all the tiem IMO is more harmful, as any "new" bugs created by the Developers you will inherantly get, if you of the developers makes a mistake in the commit, and you update it that day it could being down your whole site...

Do like I am going to do, What until a alot changes, like a new MS release to update

track the Development here

Well you can not really use it with Dreamweaver like you would some the the Dreamweaver plugin carts.....

Dreamweaver is good for Editing the CSS sheets

and it is a Pretty good Text Editor, but you still have to hand code most of it for any Changes you need to make

to install it to the web server it comes with a install script
