brimsjewelry
According to the installation instructions, I chmod this file to 644. However I continue to receive this error message at the top of the screen: Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /myserver/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file Anyone know how to fix this?
Guest
Try setting it to 755, or 777 if that doesn;t work...and then setting it back to 644 after installaton is complete.
brimsjewelry
Thanks for the idea but it didn't work. I still get the error message. Jason

Guest
I have exactly the same problem. I would really like to know how to fix this also.
sethp
I have the same problem as the one described here. Searching for more information. I've had my catalog working for months, tried to manually update my configure.php file with a new MYSQL password. Couldn't copy over the existing configure.php, so I renamed the existing one, and uploaded the new one. Since then I've had the problem, even after changing all the permissions, and trying a fresh install. seth.
sethp
Found a "fix" in this topic: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=34138 Not sure if 444 is a good thing, but it worked. seth.
Guest
I have tried this but it still doesn't work for me. :(
brimsjewelry
This didn't work for me either. However, I noticed that when I try to change the permissions for that file, it fails to do so. It automatically reverts to 664 no matter how many times I chmod it. This is crazy and frustrating! I'm using cute ftp. Anybody have an idea? Jason
Guest
If you are CHMODing and the permissions aren't "taking" ...you're not the "owner" of the file. You need to fix that first. :D
brimsjewelry
Ok, how do I change ownership? Jason
brimsjewelry
I have installed the new 2.2 release and I still have the same error message showing up. I tried chmod with Cuteftp and wsftp and still no success in changing it. It simply reverts to 644 every time. I'll give a dollar to the one who can solve this for me! brimsjewelry
I finally figured it out! It seems it is a common practice for service providers to put a block on ftp accounts prohibiting changing file permissions to 444 or 000. All you have to do is request that your service provider change the permissions for you. Jason
Guest
Jason, Have you given any thought to doing a google search for a tutorial on changing file permissions and ownership? There are lots of resources besides this forum. Here's one to get you started: http://www.dsl.org/cookbook/cookbook_9.html
Guest
Hey, I removed the pink warning by using this chmod ugo-w configure.php This worked. Is it correct? Steve
Guest
Does everything else still work? If so then you did ok.
Guest
Use FLASH FXP from Tucows, free for 30 days and by far the best utility I have ever seen bar none. I downloaded files at up to 10KBits per second in the horrible internet areas of Russia and Turkey. It does CHMOD like a breeze, shows hidden files, does mirroring, it is a champ! Also read carefully the OSCDOX.com and there is a list of all the files/directories to CHMOD. :P :P :P jAY
