medisave Posted February 15, 2003 Posted February 15, 2003 Hello, Has anyone ever thought about planning an OScommerce weekend where we meet up and talk about OSC in person. Swap and share tips / tricks / ideas about e-commerce experience? I know people come from all over and it may be difficult choosing a location - but its just a thought.... engelgrafik Posted February 8, 2004 Posted February 8, 2004 You know, I use a service for various interest groups that want to meet up. It's called Meetup.com. It's really awesome... and I don't think they sell your name or email. Whenever I sign up for these online "friends" sites, that's one of the first things I look for. Anyway, check it out: Meetup.com. What they do is set up a meeting that has a recurring date and time. You sign up for your town. Then you vote on one of three venues. If you can get enough people in your town, then you will have a Meetup scheduled. There is a subscription account that costs $19.95 for 6 months or a year (can't remember which) which allows you to ADD a venue for any three Meetups you're signed up for. Othewise, it's completely FREE. Also, you don't HAVE to sign up for your town... say you live in Grand Rapids, Michigan and there are only 2 people signed up for your Meetup. It ain't gonna happen. But maybe there are 5 people signed up in Detroit, Michigan and 20 people in Chicago, Illinois. If you wanna drive, you can sign up for ANY town you want. I say this, because a new Meetup is always hard to get bodies unless there's a big demand. And you need 4 or 5 people to VERIFY they are coming to the meetup in order for the Meetup to actually happen. Anyway... check it out. This might be helpful for you folks. http://www.meetup.com (no I do not work for them! LOL) BTW, if you want to suggest a Meetup for osCommerce, just ask them. There is a form for it I believe. Just look around the site and you'll find it. They say it might take a while to get back, I but I was told in 2 days that one of my suggestions would become a Meetup and 3 months later we have 87 people around the world signed up... one or two more signing up every day. Milwaukee and Boston have both had Meetups for my subject. There's also PHP and Small Business meetups... as well as hundreds of other subjects. Worldwide.
danix Posted February 11, 2004 Posted February 11, 2004 I think the idea of an oscommerce meetup is brilliant. Start it up and count me in!
