Ajeh
I am on 1600x1200 ... a notebook. The middle of the header is a big white block. Might want to try at the highest you can go or stretch out your browser to see this. Otherwise looks good.
dreamscape
I am on 1600x1200 ... a notebook. holy mother... how can you possibly read anything @ 1600x1200 on a notebook?? my 17" PC monitor doesn't even go that high... it goes to 1280x1024 and at that you gotta pull out a magnifying glass and get about 1/2 inch away from the screen to see anything. Ajeh
That is the settings on this notebook. Fortunately, high res graphics card goes with it and a 15" display I believe this is. :D I have never thought to add a monitor to this as this works just fine for me. Granted, that is an idea for testing purposes ... have to consider that one. As well as find space for a monitor ... 8)
Guest
Got it I was on a lower resolution thanks for the feed back I will take care of it as soon as I get a minute and thanks for the feedback Joe
dreamscape
a 15" display I believe this is. :D I just can't see how 1600x1200 could be remotely visible on a 15" monitor.... everything would be so small... most people with 15" monitors run 800x600, or 1024x678 at the max. Ajeh
Just how these notebooks are designed This is a Dell Inspiron 8100 with all the bells and whistles. It does not like less than 1600x1200 either. Gets all upset with me and makes a mess of things. Granted plugging in another monitor I can do that. But I have used this for over a year now and it's crisp and clean to read, code and view. All my development work is done on this ... and it is handy that it can go with me when needed. Kent C
We should all make our sites so that they are usable by our customers, not just someone with the same resolution as "us". After all, the more people that can use the site, the more potential customers you have. It's extremely difficult to guess what resolution the customers are going to be using. Further, you may have some customers with older equipment or unique preferences. Some may have adjusted their browser's default behaviour so that it is usable for them. If you "weld" the presentation of your web page in place, you've made it more difficult for these users to view your site. What I've done to help is to change the font-size attributes in the stylesheet.css to use the named sizes vs the absolute values. For example, try using a value of xx-small vs 8 or 9. You do loose a little fine control, but the site will work for more people and on more types of hardware. For an example, check out my test/development store at www.c-us-online.com/catalog/. Play with your browser's "Text Size" and you will see that it changes. Now check a 'standard out of the box OSC' site and try the same thing. Try the same thing at some extreme resolutions, such as Ajeh's 1600x1200 (or higher) or 640x480, since there will be users out there using these resolutions. Guest
That is good I will run some tests on that one how ever the window where the merchandise is displayed is actually the product it self so we can make that one a little smaller just to make sure it fits all screens.
mazza
Kent, I have done the same thing with my stores. But there are some inherited problems, mostly ie6 vs. Mozilla vs. Opera (worst when it comes to relative font-sizes). Apperently you would need some type of stylesheet switcher. I have mine at server side, but maybe a double check with client-side would be most fool-proof. But at the end of the day, my hope is set on the upcoming template structure. I do not think that real accessibility will be realistic without css-positioning as tables were never meant for layout and html should not give appearance, just the meaning. html and css on default osc is not what it should be. Not the worst I have seen, but not the best either. Maybe core developers would need a htmtl/Css-specialist on the team. Guest
Ok you mean switching based on settings or switch on type of browser ?
mazza
Browser and platform. I have this: 1 stylesheet as fallback and for other styling (background, colors etc, etc) with absolute font-sizes for older browsers. 1 that is given by php-script depending on platform and browser. This is imported so older browsers cant see it. Here are the browser specific fixes for fonts. I would imagine that some one with less than optimal vision knows how to increase their font-size in browser without any javascript gimmicks. I have been also thinking about making a javascript fall-back for proxies and caches where the server and client are not directly connected.
