hostspring
I'm sorry if this has already been answered...I wasn't able to find a reference to this question on the forums. After installing, I'm getting the following error message in the File Manager. Error: I can not write to this file. Please set the right user permissions on: [FILE IN QUESTION] This instance of osCommerce is running in a shared hosting environment. Is there a way to allow the File Manger to work AND still allow write privileges for the user account? Thank you, Bill
agtlewis
You have to set the permission using an ftp program. I think 755 is what you want to set them too. And yes that gives write privileges for the user account.
hostspring
thats not working for me. I believe the problem is that the files are owned by the user account. The File Manager is attempting to write to files as the user running apache...which is why I'm getting an error. How have other people solved this problem? thanks bill Bill
toolcrazy
No, I don't think so. Your files should of been upload and automaticly set in your user name. OSC shouldn't have anyway to change user/group permissions to server, this is a root permission only. Try and set the permissions to 777. hostspring
I followed guide.oscdox.com religiously. I'm still having this problem regardless of whether the permissions are set to 777 or not. Again...i think that the file manager is attempting to write to files as the user who is running apache. Since these files are not owned by that user (instead, they are owned by the individual account holder)....they can't be written too. Bill
agtlewis
Are you setting the permissions for the folder or the actual files? You have to change both ya know.
hostspring
yes. all permissions for all folders/files is 777. (not for production). The problem is this... The ownership/group/permissions of an example file are: -rwxrwxrwx 1 usernm usergrp 4546 Feb 12 23:30 account.php File Manager cannot write to this file because it attempts to do so as the user "nobody" (the user who is running apache). Since the user "nobody" is not in the group "usergrp", permission is denied. Is no one else having this problem??? Bill
jswan
Hi: I just started getting this error in the last day or two. For some reason, all was working fine until I started trying to modify the categories.php file. I then reverted to my saved file, and it wouldn't let me add images for new products or manufacturers. I checked and rechecked my permissions. All were set at 755. So, here I am, with a set up that was working just fine a couple of days ago. Now, I have reset the permissions for my images folder to 777, and that seems to work. However, I am not too hot on the idea of leaving it that way on my live site. It would be real easy for someone to hack into that. I have absolutely no idea what changed. I'm wondering if it is because my login and password for my admin is different than the login and password for my server space. Very frustrating.
