Now when I have played around with OSC, I get to notice that it's the contributions that makes the shop. But due to the huge amount of them, it's difficult and time consuming to test what is worth using. I thought it could be good idea to collect some favourites and that way one could also find some useful contribs that didnt know existed.

So what are your Top 5 Contributions that you like to use in your shops?

Sam,

I was looking over the thumbnailer you use. It sure does look more impressive than what I am using. I also looked through the install and I noticed the cache directory is supposed to be set at 777. I had an old thumbnailer that I had to set at 777 for the images directory in order to upload pics, then I changed it back to 775. I forgot one time and got hacked.

I replaced that mod with something else. So my question is, with everyone saying don't use 777, can you tell me why this one is safe?

Tim

Since I highjacked the thread, I might as well give my top 5.

What a thread. having to pick the best five, thats hard, as i installed so many, some of them very small.

1 Ultinmate seo urls either the old or the new one ( this is a must)

2. Headertags seo. (This is a must)

3. Additional images (there are others)

4. Google sitemaps ( certianly helps)

5. downloadfile helper. ( saves me making mistakes with download file names)

There are lots of others. Security pro is one that ought to be added.

There are hundreds of other contributions that all help with the functioallity of a store, depending on what you want. Another great place to look is the tips and trick forum. Loads of help there.

We are preparing to build a brand new online store and will be installing osCommerce using Fantastico. Before engaging in design work, I'd like to install contributions that are deemed critical to a store's success, especially from an SEO perspective. Here's what I have so far:

1. Google XML Sitemap SEO

2. Header Tags SEO

I wasn't sure about Ultimate SEO URLs and want to do some further research. Any feedback would be very helpful.

Thanks,

Brett
