3 Simple Questions

k - here's the thing... I've been trying to figure out 3 things to go live, and until I do... *sigh*

1. On the products' description page, how do I make the picture on the right _Blank hyperlinkable?

2. I keep getting a broken image for What's new... I dunno why... it source shows it's looking for /catalog/ without a file name... I have scoured everywhere for over 2 hours trying to get this alone, and it's driving me bananas...

3. Product Images on default.php - a.k.a. New Products on main page - I'd like to have the values as a _MAX+ size rather than stretch the image... it would be SO nice if I could say "allow upto 100 x 100, but if it's really 40 x 60, then that's fine - display 40 x 60" - is there a way to do this?

Much appreciated...

Not sure I understand what you mean by that.. moving it to the right means hacking into product_info.php and simply move the code for the table that holds it.

There are 3 what's new's on osCommerce, the what's new page, the what's new module and the what's new box. Be specific.

Sort of possible with a contribution that automagically resizes images and displays them in the correct size... but you will need GD libs compiled into PHP for that. Other solution is to keep your images under that 100x100 and remove the IMAGE_WIDTH / IMAGE_HEIGHT calls from tep_image() in which case it will display whatever size it is.

Thanks for the quick reply. My bad on such vague questions... I've been working at this for over 14 hours now and my brain is starting to slow down

None the less, to clarify my questions:

1. product_info.php - there's the regular product image. I'd like to href it with a target=" _blank" so that people can view a much larger version of the image. I am currently inserting an option within the description, but I'd rather (for neatness) that the image itself be an href...

2. When I'm referring to What's New... I'm referring to what gets viewed as soon as you hit a completed OSCommerce site... I believe it displays as default.php but the include seems to be coming from /include/whats_new.php - and that's where my investigation seems to come to a halt... to make things even more interesting, when you click on the product feature (as in the broken link under What's New from the main page of an OSCommerce site) it's giving me a message "Product Not Found" and throws me onto" /catalog/product_info.php?products_id="

with no ID number... some thing is screwey but I have no idea what it is...

3. I tried that already... some of the images come from manufacturers and well, it's impossible to control 50 different companies - some images are larger than others (largest being 640x480 and smallest being 40x60). What I'd like is for all the images to get capped at 100 x 100 if they are larget, but if they are smaller then just to display their full size without distoring them. I plan on putting a heck of a lot of products on here (like in the thousands) and to have to open each and every single image will just kill me on time... See why I'm concerned about this one?

Thanks for your input! Much appreciated.

There are a number of image manipulation programs out there that will batch resize your images for you. I use Adobe Photo Elements, an inexpensive version of Adobe Photoshop. I use the "Create a Web Album" process and it allows you to set 2 image size to be created, one is a thumbnail and one is whatever size you want. That helps eliminate not only the problem of multiple sizes, but resolution issues as well. If you post a 640x480 image on the web that happens to be 300 dpi, and just resize it to your page, your page is going to take a LONG time to load.

Or just use the one and only contrib that does it all for you....

but that does require GD like I said. It will size down / up any image to the given size dynamically after which the image gets saved for future reference.

It is by far the best contribution out there concerning images IMHO but..

no GD no play.

Another one that might be nice to checkout is

latest php version has native support... see the contrib, it has a small test script to see if it works on your system.

You can always try to get your host to upgrade... or move away to a better one ;)

Ya know mattice, it's 3:30 in the morning here and you keep making me check things and find out stuff when I am trying to go to bed! Now, I find out I HAVE gd, so I HAVE to go add the contib and check it out, meaning reloading a bunch of photos (that FTP can do while I sleep). <shaking my head - muttering, I knew I should NOT have looked at that last post, I just knew it>
