Sessomy
Hi Im reallly new to oscommerce and need to find a way to sell an artists mp3's online. I googled mp3 cart and found modulecart2.1..... installed it ok but some of the images files wouldnt show up. So, de-installed it then tried again but it was still the same. So.... as modulecart is based on oscommerce I thought I'd give oscommerce a go. But THE SAME images are not showing. The images in question are the ones in the folders: /htdocs/catalog/includes/languages/english/images/buttons/ and /htdocs/catalog/admin/includes/languages/english/images/buttons/ (as far as I know). I've tried different browsers to no avail. The images ARE uploading to my webserver, but when I actually type in the url of the image I get an Internal Server Error message. Any ideas???? Thanks Stuey :)
MrPhil
The images ARE uploading to my webserver, but when I actually type in the url of the image I get an Internal Server Error message. Well, if you can't display them from the browser, you're certainly going to have problems with osC displaying them! HOW did you upload them to the server? Were you careful to upload them in BINARY mode, not ASCII? Are you certain that you got them into the correct directory? Can you confirm that with your site control panel (e.g., cPanel or Plesk) and its File Manager function? Do you have any kind of URL rewriting or other redirection in your .htaccess file (if on an Apache server)? Do you have "hotlink protection" in your .htaccess file that might be blocking you? Once you can display images on your browser (that are stored on the server), if you still have problems, what language are you using? "english" and "english-utf8" are different -- you may have images in the "english" directory that aren't found in the "english-utf8" directory. Check your page source (browser View > Page Source) to see what directory it's trying to get the images from.
germ
The "Internal Server error" usually means a botched .htaccess file. Sessomy
The "Internal Server error" usually means a botched .htaccess file. A thread about this thanks you guys.... It WAS a htaccess problem. there were htaccess files in the /includes and /admin/includes directories put there during installation, so I just DELETED them and images work fine now! The question is, as these htaccess files were not put in by me, but during installation, SHOULD I have deleted them, or just changed them somehow?????? I tried reading them to see how I could change them..... they were mumbo jumbo to me im afraid :) What were the htaccess files in the /includes directories for??? any help appreciated again..... otherwise I'll just leave them out for now! MrPhil
Well, the "stock" .htaccess files in those directories just have a bunch of comments (starting with #) and <Files *.php> Order Deny,Allow Deny from all </Files> Did yours have anything else? These appear to be security measures to keep people from running PHP scripts where they shouldn't be doing so. Your site will run without them, but it will be less secure. I don't see why they would affect the display of images, which is why I asked if there was any other code. Could you have gotten a different version installed by your modulecart installation? By the way, you should never just go around erasing files that you don't understand! If you want to try running without them, it's best just to rename them (.htaccess.orig). That way, if you need to get them back, it's just a simple rename rather than having to open up the installation file and extract and restore specific files.
