Cart empties out when going to checkout

I'm moving an osCommerce 2.2-MS2 site from one host to another, and believe I have the configurations identical.

 

Everything seems to function correctly until the user hits the 'checkout' or 'my account' links - if the user does so, their cart is immediately emptied out. They cannot go back and shop again - even if they re-fill their cart, as soon as they hit checkout, the cart is empty and they are asked to log in, even if they were already logged in.

 

Seems like I am missing something simple and session related - an advice (especially advice ASAP :) ) would be GREATLY appreciated.
