Guest Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Please Help!! I hope someone can help me with this: I built my own site which all works fine. I then built another site for a family member also using oscommerce When i was testing it i set the contact us form to my email address - and it worked fine (and still does if i put it back to mine in the admin section) However, whenever i set the email address to the AOL one - it does not get there?! I've checked in spam, and checked settings with no luck. Has anyone else had this problem? - if so PLEASE HELP - its getting embarrasing now Gavin
germ Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 AOL send email problem fix The contrib is not new, and I don't know if that will fix the problem or not. If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you. Guest Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 AOL send email problem fix The contrib is not new, and I don't know if that will fix the problem or not. thanks for your speedy response i tried the mod as shown above - however no joy It might be because they rely on an AOL account for their email? I bought them the domain name and hosting as a present and subsequently built them the site (for a coach holiday company) The site isnt brilliant, (as i'm relatively new to all this) but it suits them fine I will be setting up their email address for their domain shortly - i'm wondering whether because i got the store owners' email down as [email protected] is this the problem. I find it unusual as my googlemail addresses work fine (as used when testing everything) I was hoping for an easy solution as i'm still developing my own site (which works fine!!) that i have work to do on, and they are excited about getting completed contact us forms!! family hey - who'd have em (important lesson learnt - maybe i should stick to things that i know more about - like drinking!!!) Any other ideas? - or should i just wait until i set-up their domain email addresses and see if this solves it? Regards Gav
germ Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I'm no good at debugging email problems. I'd ask the owner of the AOL account to use their AOL customer support to find out if the email actually arriving, and if so ask why they are blocking it. If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you. Regards Gav You should post the mailer daemon message (specifically the header message) you receive on the bounce back email.
Guest Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 You should post the mailer daemon message (specifically the header message) you receive on the bounce back email. That is half the problem, the messages are being sent and the confirmation webpage shows ( as it does when i send it to my google or my other email address) but it just doesnt get there! With the site owner email address set to any of my addresses it works fine, however with the AOL one - it doesnt So - they dont get the completed form and i dont get any clue whatsoever as to why its not getting there!!! I will prob email AOL support and see if they can throw some light on the situation - cant think of anything else to do Thanks for your reply Gav

germ Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 The only problem I've had with AOL was 7 years ago when I first started doing web sites. We moved the site to a new server and suddenly AOL started blocking the email. I contacted AOL (I had an AOL account at that time) and was told the email headers weren't to their liking. The server admin had to reconfigure the server to include "reverse DNS lookups" in the email headers. I would think that this would be standard practice by now. Pardon my lack of understanding, but how would i go about this?
