Moving store to new server

Guest

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at moving my store onto a new server. I've already created the domain on the new server and installed OSCommerce (version 2.2 on both servers).

To move the store do I simply back up the database from the old server and import it on the new server?

The other issue is the old server is Windows based, the new server is running Linux.

Thanks,

Jim McGee

Yes AND your php files, images, etc.

It will work under Linux as well. You may have to learn some simple things such as changing permissions, htaccess, etc. It's different with windows based. These are simple things you'll pick up and learn as you go along.

Also, make changes to your configure.php files, both of them, to reflect the new domain and configure paths.

Here's a >>guide to assist you.

I looked at the guide you linked to and it appears to be pretty complex, and judging by the number of responses (three pages) there is a lot of room for error.

Isn't there some utility for moving the store?

As an alternative can I just back up my custmer and order databases and move them to the new store? I don't have that many products so adding them back in wouldn't be too bad.
