fsiano
Hey everyone, I have been in osCommerce for a good year or so now. I finally have the time to finish a shop I have had in mind for long months now. Although I was wondering about everyone else, are you all making sales with your shops???Anyone doing a ridiculous amount of selling? I am just wondering and I figured it is a nice time to brag about how many visitors you get a day, etc. Just a friendly question Wish me luck in finishing my site Thanks Frank S

But yes, obviously people are making sales with their shops. wizardsandwars
lol @ Mattice. I know what you mean. After 7 months, we expect to net our first profit in February, though not much. Of course, then I'll just need to find another way to write something off for a loss. Gotta show loss for at least a year for tax purposes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit. If you have a question about any of my posts here, your best bet is to contact me though either Email or PM in my profile, and I'll be happy to help. Daemonj
Actually, you can legally show a loss for the first 4 years. :) "Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. Guest
Absolutely!!! After the first day we were making money! Of course online shops/maintence are alot of work, but if your the owner/developer you just need to establish what price you charge your development time to. Yes you do make money but don't expect millions - it's a little slower than that.

Gotta show loss for at least a year for tax purposes. I can only hope for you the IRS isn't planning a little web shop themselves and scrolling these forums to find out how they can change 'This is a demonstration shop only' :D Don't know about USA laws. In Holland there are Starter discounts. And in your case you might get away with a good de-valuation of your stock as it is 'fashion' sensitive... ie Warcraft 3 will not be worth what you paid for it last year etc. As for traffic, hits, reg'd clients and all that I can only say "Show me the money!" ;) Mattice "Politics is the art of preventing people from taking part in affairs which properly concern them"
wizardsandwars
Mattice, We get some start up tax breaks as well. And we run everything as cash based, so we just expense our inventory up front. It'll take longer for us to show a profit on paper this way, but tax benifits of not showing profit for the first year (or more) far outweigh what our profit would have been, after taking into consideration our initial investment. As for statistics, We opened in late August '02. We get about 1400 page requests a day Which is about 500 distinct users We average 15-20 Users sign up each day Leading to about about 10-12 sales per day We spend about $500 a month in advertising. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit. dreamscape
also depends how quick you'll make a profit, on how much inventory you carry... obviously people like wizards that carry their own inventory will take a little longer to see a "profit"... some people do drop shipping though, and have very little sunk into the company money wise since they don't carry the inventory, and could see profit pretty quickly. ActiveTuning
We have about 237 registered customers, and about $12,000 in gross sales on our first product made for solely a 2002-2003 Nissan Altima. We should be releasing another 3 products within the next 2 months.
