lindsayanng Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 I guess this post belongs in the GENERAL SUPPORT section.. But anyways. I went to go send out two PMs to people who had sent PMs to me. Not a lot.. Just TWO.. Well, I sent my first PM, and then went and opened the other PM, and it said "You can not send another PM until June 29th 4:09AM" WHAT THE HECK?? Why is it limiting me one PM every 4 hours??? I thought at first, that it was giving me a FLOODING error, because they were short PMs, but thats not the case. I simply can not send another PM!! A great place for newbies to start Road Map to oscommerce File Structure DO NOT PM ME FOR HELP. My time is valuable, unless i ask you to PM me, please dont. Harald added that feature some time ago because we were getting clobbered with spambots which were sending massive amounts of PM spam after registering as a member grinding the forum to a crawl. But every 4 hours can't be right. Anybody else who experienced the PM time limit? I can't verify it because I'm not restricted by it. Did you set your time zone correctly (maybe it shows that time as the default time - Greenwich mean time?).
web-project Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 it's not funny as I am getting the same problem, 1 PM per 4 hours... Please read this line: Do you want to find all the answers to your questions? click here. As for contribution database it's located here! 8 people out of 10 don't bother to read installation manuals. I can recommend: if you can't read the installation manual, don't bother to install any contribution yourself. h2oHOH Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 limiting me one PM every 4 hours??? Well, I experienced this the other day also but the wait period was much less... As I remember it was just a few minutes, so I just tried to send 2 PM's and my wait time is '5 minutes' ... don't know why it's different...
lindsayanng Posted June 28, 2009 Author Posted June 28, 2009 yea, my time zone is all set.. I triple checked i because it was the first thing that i thought about. Guest Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 Thats strange. I just tried it and only had a 4 minute wait.
♥geoffreywalton Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 Mine was 5 minutes, have not tried it today. One minute delay would seem a better interval. Sufficient to cut down the bots but not so long as to make PMs almost useless. ♥ecartz Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 One minute delay would seem a better interval. Sufficient to cut down the bots but not so long as to make PMs almost useless.I think that the optimal would be an increasing delay, e.g. one minute after the first PM, two minutes after the second PM, four minutes after the third, eight after the fourth... It would also make sense to exempt replies from this entirely. Replying to someone else's PM implies that you are not a spam bot (unless someone is foolish enough to PM a spam bot; even then, the spam bot is unlikely to be smart enough to reply). Of course, the forum software might not support either of those options. Always back up before making changes.
Harald Ponce de Leon Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Hi Lindsay.. There is a flooding control limit of 5 minutes when PMs can be sent. If this does not work for you, try clearing your cookies and sign into the forum again to see if that helps. You can also try the e-mail function (please note that this has a flooding control of 15 minutes). Kind regards, , osCommerce
