osCommerce

The e-commerce.

live demo?

Hi all,

I am contemplating on moving over from phpshop to osCommerce though I'd like to have a look at the administrator section if that is at all possible?

Currently I use phpshop as seen here: www.warcom.com.au

I designed it and maintain it though I am finding a few problems with it off late.

Apparently osCommerce is far superiour -out of the box- from what I've been told from a few web designers I thought I'd give it a whirl when I get time. (after I take a look at the live demo)

So if there happens to be one available I'd be most interested to check it out and any other thoughts any of you guys/ladies have would be most appreciated!

Just download it and install it, seems the easiest.

The Admin has certain features that are very convenient but also

very risky to leave out in the open (if unprotected).

Therefore no Demo Admin can/should have full functionality.

Mattice

Paul,

I highly recommend OSC. I tried PHPShop a couple of years ago...at that time there just were not the features I was looking for in it. I have been hooked on OSC since I first downloaded it. Almost anything you'd want is either in it or there is a mod for it...even if there isn't one now there probably will be soon... :D :D

The forum is full of very helpful people and if you've got some PHP under your belt, you won't have any trouble. Enjoy!

maybe in your eyes.

I only have access to the warcom box and don't fancy messing about with installing another shopping cart on there, especially when os commerce (from what I can tell) needs full access to webroot?

ie: warcom.com.au not warcom.com.au/shop/ so I can mess about with it?

Why doesn't this forum allow users to edit their posts? How annoying!

kim, I can see by the amount of activity going on in this forum that there are alot more active users than over at phpshop.org - thats a good thing!

Editing is not allowed because of the news server synchronisation.

You do not need root access to setup osC.

You can also grab an Server Install kit from www.hotscripts.com to install Apache / PHP / MySQL on your Windows box (at home) to simply testdrive it. They also do install kits for Linux but I would not recommend using an installation kit on a production server.

No it's not. Think errors in code, whole threads with solutions provided by several people would become obsolete / twisted. (Mental note: I still would not allow editing if there wasn't any synchro whatsoever for that reason :) )

Nope, by default it installs in [webroot]/catalog so that's no problem.

That's where the preview button kicks in... ;)

Depends on your definition.

I understand that ain't webroot as in webserver root (ie Apache config)

but if you do not place it in your webspace you can not access it.

Wih Apache: create an additional VirtualHost for it, drop it in it's own dir wherever you like. Don't know about IIS.

You can install the shop on a live server in just a subdir, I've done that quite often. Just make sure you do not leave your Admin unprotected.

but nevermind : )

okay, I'll stop then :)
