disassemble Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 So i got some sort of virus and was able to reinstall osCommerce but i need to change my password so they cannot log on again.. I have this installed through godaddy and they were not able to help me. I just want to change my password that i use to login to the administrative area. I went to go edit the .htpassword file in the admin folder but the password was encrypted. Please give me some information on how to do this now and for the future. I also have searched and couldn't come up with any results. Thanks a bunch!
zefeena Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 I sorted my password out by logging onto my cpanel and password protecting the relevant directories Mail Webmail Change Password Parked Domains Addon Domains FTP Manager File Manager Disk Space Usage Backups Password Protect Directories Running a botched up version of osCommerce Online Merchant v2.3.4 bootstrap with the dresscode theme installed, numerous add-ons, terrible coding, terrible website, but will have to make do until I have made up for my losses and can risk shutting down for a couple of weeks while I start all over again. - I did not install my program but am endeavouring to fix it with your help.
MrPhil Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 So you've lost the password to a password-protected directory, and you want to reset it? If you have cPanel or something similar for a site control panel, it has functions to set up and remove password protection. It should have some sort of "change password" entry. At worst, you can use it to remove password protection, and then re-install it with a new password. If you need to do it all manually (!!), try renaming (rather than immediately erasing) all files and directories starting with .htpass* (it will take some investigative work to figure out what is doing what). If you had other password protected directories, this will unprotect them too, so be very careful. After adding the password protection back in, you can erase the renamed directories and files. IF YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE DOING, BRING SOMEONE IN WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY'RE DOING.
