jbh Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 My client mentioned that about 5 times per day, customers are greeted as returning customers. Problem is this happens to *new* customers. How would one go about fixing this in version osCommerce 2.2-MS2 ? I am doing this to help a partner whose client runs Os Commerce. If this could be solved their business would be fixed for good but I cannot find a solution through the search on this site or from Google. Is this a new error or just something entirely random for us? Thank you PS. Here is a customer quote regarding the situation: "I am trying to put in an order and it keeps saying that i am a returning customer. this is my first time on this website.what can i do?"
Guest Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Sounds like a sessions problem. Make sure you have no links that include sids (ie. http://www.yoursite.com/index.php?sid=123456789456123) and turn your force cookie use to false. jbh Posted June 17, 2009 Author Posted June 17, 2009 edit The setting 'force cookie use' was set to false already, it seems. Here are the session settings in the admin panel/configuration settings. Session Directory /www/domain.com/tmp/ Force Cookie Use False Check SSL Session ID True Check User Agent True Check IP Address True Prevent Spider Sessions True Recreate Session True Thank you very much for taking the time to reply to me.
Nullachtfuffzehn Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Most likely one of the spiders has stored a link with a session id. This may result from a spider session before the prevent spider sessions was set to true. You can ask the customer how he found the page and check if that link has a session id included.
jbh Posted June 17, 2009 Author Posted June 17, 2009 Well, I can advise the store owner to ask but the problem is I do not know how to prevent this from happening again. With the configuration settings I posted, is anything else logically missing? Thank you so much. I will let them know about this possibility.
spooks Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 yes, looks like sid issue http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?sho...c=330479&hl Sam Remember, What you think I ment may not be what I thought I ment when I said it. jbh Posted June 17, 2009 Author Posted June 17, 2009 I read that thread earlier, ty. Still trying to wrap my brain around it ;) I will ask to see if the customers experienced a SID or if they all came from a certain link/search engine. I can't find any links at all that have sid's appened to them. To be honest it's nothing but html pages with the product id querystring If there is any other setting/info needed, I can try to find it in order to help paint a more complete picture. Ty, for the time.
