com1usa
My site is up and ready, now i have to find oput the best way to secure it. I have shared ssl available with my hosting company, but have heard there is problems or issues with that. I can get an Instant SSl cert for 49.00, which seems like the way to go. What configuring do I have to do to OSC to make the certificate work properly. There is NOTHING in the OSC Dox about installing or configuring ssl, that I can see. Help please, I have searched this forum for 30 minutes with no luck. Thanks in advance
Guest
First you want to make sure that the SSL Cert that you are about to purchase is compatible with at leaste 98% of the browsers. Are you going to purchase this SSL Cert through your web host or will you attempt to purchase this SSL Cert on your own. Your web host administrator will be the one installing the SSL Cert for you so if you are purchasing this on your own you will need to notify them and they can tell you the correct SSL Cert to purchase. (different types of SSL Certs for different types of servers) We use shared SSL on our web site and it works fine. Ask your web host about shared SSL and if you will only need to insert the link into your config pages and not have to transfer your web pages to an SSL directory on your server. If you don't have to transfer the secured pages to another directory I would try out the shared SSL first. Let us know how you are going about purchasing the SSL Cert. rcu
I got my cert in 10 minutes from geotrust.com. It was a relatively easy and fast process. $139 and is compatible with 98% of browsers. They have step by step install instructions on the whole process.
