IE 8 putting lines on page

can someone help please. my page looks fine in ie7 and firefox.

but ie8 puts these lines in.

 

anyone know why and how to fix?

figuring it out from a screenshot seems like we'd be making guesses only.

 

can you link to the page? or paste the output / rendered html?

IE8 behaves differently from earlier IE versions. By default, it now more or less obeys Web standards, whereas in IE7 and earlier, MS said, "We know better, so we'll do it out way." The upshot is that code which relies on "IE or not IE" tests will do the wrong thing with IE8, since it will assume that the browser will do things in a non-standard way. IE8 users can set a configuration switch somewhere that tells IE8 to behave like IE7, but of course, each user will have to "break" their own copy of the browser. The long term solution is to fix the code so that IE8 and higher is treated like Firefox or other standards-compliant browsers.

They appear to be transparent gif's (pixel_trans.gif) that are showing up as white... but as mentioned, it's hard to tell without a link.

i see stuff like this:

where their are stretched spacers and line graphics being used in the layout of the page.

 

i'd bet that the problems mentioned above, where IE 7 did things it's own (non-compliant) way, is causing these small effects to get tweaked.

 

further, i'd bet your template developer is a firefox person. :-)

 

layout elements you've installed looked to be causing these issues. on the actual page, right click on one of the undesired lines and see if the properties point you to a file name.

that makes sence, I clicked on most of the lines and the properties all point to domain.com/images/spacer.gif

 

can it be solved by changing no-repeat to repeat?

 

as well I don't know where to fix it as the above code is the source HTML from the IE8 developer tools in the browser.

would I have to change code in index.php?

from here, it's very hard for me to pin down the problem precisely. i suggest you make a backup copy of that spacer then change the one in your site to confirm it's a problem with the spacer's tranparency or color or whatever. you've got to do more investigation into the exact cause of the problem, in my opinion. good luck!
