GIDMEISTER Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 I installed oscommerce on a windows PC that has PHP and MYSQL and an apache server. (This is my home PC, its not meant to serve pages to the web.) Then I tried to see the oscommerce main page by going to: http://localhost/oscommerce/catalog/index.php This page tells me that it helps install my oscommerce site. So I clicked on the 'install' button and I'm taken to a page that asks for: 1. The address of the database server in the form of a hostname or an IP address 2. A username and password for the database server 3. The name of the database to hold data in. What database are they talking about? Does Oscommerce come with its own database? How would I fill out these fields? Thanks, Gideon
web-project Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 you need to install mysql server to get the osc running on your own computer. Please read this line: Do you want to find all the answers to your questions? click here. As for contribution database it's located here! 8 people out of 10 don't bother to read installation manuals. I can recommend: if you can't read the installation manual, don't bother to install any contribution yourself. Before installing contribution or editing/updating/deleting any files, do the full backup, it will save to you & everyone here on the forum time to fix your issues. Any issues with oscommerce, I am here to help you.

Use localhost as the server the db is on. Good Luck and enjoy. G PS Read the useful links thread below for ............... RhinoFish Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 when you unzipped the OSCommerce download, there's a PDF file in there called "documentation.pdf" - check it out too.
