People can still order turned off products - Bug?

Our product range is always changing and products being added and turned off. My problem is that several times people have clicked on a link to our site through Google and it has brought up a product that we no longer carry and has been turned off, but if you know the product URL (which Google does) then you can still get to is and add it to the cart. I would have thought that before displaying a product, that it would search for it's status and only display it if the product is turned on, or give a no item found message if it is turned off. Is this not a bug? Has anyone found a way to add this feature? I have searched the contributions but I cannot find anythng like this.

Your help or comments please.

Thanks

Kev.

Thanks for checking for me. I got to the bottom of it: We have a contribution which allows a category to be turned off, but the product was still on. I should have checked that first.

Thanks for your help :)
