princedom
Hi, I was wondering if osCommerce can handle e-products transactions. Can I sell n e-book, a PDF for example or something if electronic format? If this is handled please indicate a URL for the specific module or help page with instructions on how this is used. Thank you,
westkoast
Yeah should be easy enough. Then when they order, dynamically include the link to the file on your server in the sales email. Should be pretty strainght forward. Just list the e-book as a regular product, with no shipping costs. Let the customer check out as if they are buying a tangible product. I need to read the rules more often...

ezeman
I'm setting up a site to sell documents (word, text, pdf and/or HTML - not sure which yet.) Downloads work well on osCommerce but you do need to protect your files from unpaid download. If customers complete a transaction but haven't paid or payment is not confirmed (eg sending a cheque or of-line credit card authorisation) they can still view thier orders and download the file. Do this: 1 - enable downloads in Admin 2 - add your products using the product attributes to link your downloadable files (located in catalog/downloads) - no browse facility here, just put in your file name. 3 - protect your files - add a "download" box to the users' page which leads to a "my Downloads" page & block unauthorised downloads in the "view orders" page - click on the following thread for more info. http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/viewtopic.php...p=107436#107436 An alternative to option 3 is to load the Download Controller contribution. I found this to be to feature rich & missed a couple of my needs. Feel free to try out my test site hr.p10.co.uk/default.php - buy a handbook or policy (the only downloads) twice. Text is just thrown together and might be a bit confusing, sorry. The first time opt to pay by cheque - you'll be asked to send money but won't get access to any files - not even in "view orders" - order status is still "pending". You won't see your files till I get the cash and set your order status to "Complete". If I see any bogus orders come through my test site, I'll pretend you paid and set the order status to "complete" to let you see what happened. Best leave some kind of comment during purchase. Now buy another download by credit card - using test card no 4111 1111 1111 1111 & any current expiry date - any old crap can go in other required fields. Status on successful CC purchase goes straight to "complete" When correct status, a new "download box" should (hopefully) appear under your cart on the right hand side. Clicking on the download button will take you to a downloads page - sweet! The box & download page will disapear when the download time expires or the max no of downloads is reached - this helps protect the files further. If you want to see how the reciepts come through you'll need to enter your real email address but I don't care either way. NOTE::: this is still in development and various bits might not work as I mess with them. I'd appreciate feed back on what's confusing or missleading. Good luck Kenny If you learn more than you forget then that's a good thing.
