Slow initial page load

Hello there!

The problem I am having is a very slow initial page load. I can wait for up to 90 seconds for the initial catalog page to load from http://www.xxx.com/catalog/

After that initial page loads, clicking on any link brings up the next page within a few seconds.

Does anyone have any tweaks to php.ini or tweaks to phpa (PHP Acceleratator - free ZEND type program) to boost the initial response time? It would be nice if the initial page were to load within 3 to 5 seconds. Or even some PHP commands to put into the default.php file so that output is fired to the web browser immediately.

Currently using:

Red Hat Linux 6.2

Linux Kernel 2.4.19

Apache 1.3.27-1

PHP 4.1.2-1

phpa 1.3.3r1

OS Commerce 2.2 05-16-2002 Snapshot

(with additional modules and some updates)

Thanks in advance!

I thought using "xxx" was pretty darn obvious NOT to click on it.

Anyway, if you want a test area, ask me directly in email. I am not about to give out any URLs publically.

Well, for me at least, this board is about public help so everyone benefits. Don't expect an email from me at least.

Seems to me if you want some help on why your page is loading slowly, that it would make sense to post the actual flippin' URL of the page that you're having a problem with. After all, isn't it going to be there for the public when it's done anyway???

P.S. Check your images - If you haven't created thumbs somehow, the catalog is loading your full-sized images on the default page, even though they are showing in thumbnail size.

... if you want to REALLY see something that doesn't set up right out of the box without some tweaking,

Amen!!
