Categories Box "list" style to replace Manufacturers Box "pulldown"

I searched without success, but is there a contrribution that would make a manufacturers box a list of items like the default categories box rather than the pull down menu?

 

If not, how difficult would it be to recode manufacturer.php?

 

For the novice, could a comparison and cut&paste from the cagtegories.php along with some find/replace in the manufacturers.php in the \boxes subdirectory do the trick?
