WebMistress
For product categories I have 2 questions: Is it possible to create sub categories under the categories, how many levels, any tips??? Is there a maximum number of products osc will support? maximum accounts? Thanks for the help...
Guest
Yes... you can add pretty much as many subcategories as you wish. To do this in admin click the folder icon on the category you wish to create a sub-category under, then simply click the new category button to begin the process of creating your sub-category etc. Tips? .... do not have too many sub-categories as too much depth in your catalog makes things tedious for the user. I know that there was a good thread in the old forums regarding how many products osC will support.... sorry I do not have a URL, you will have to search. Perhaps it would be a good idea to search in the MySQL website, as I think this question has more to do with the performance of the MySQL database. Here's a look for starters: http://www.mysql.com/eweek/index.html

WebMistress
I ask because I have seen other carts "advertise" that they only support up to 10,000 or 100,000 products or up to 9999 accounts.... they also were php/mysql.... we want a category hierarchy structure to look like this: industry(20)/manufacturer(10)/product series(up to 50)/item# but then also be searchable by other criteria... so I am wondering about the limits, if any... we have considered like you said to forgetabout all the categories and just make our search ability to be more detailed. Thank for your input.
rseigel
The biggest OSC shop I've heard of had over 200,000 products in it. I doubt you'll have a problem.
