emanresu
The Forum is very good but is it time for the community to organise a "developers" or "users" conference so we could have these discussions face to face. The exchange of information would be priceless.... What about tying it in with Comdex Europe or Comdex Fall. Would take no more than a day for the first get together so we could really tell people what we REALLY think about their suggestions and contributions. :x I'd be willing to put in the effort with some help from the other UK guys. Are we at this stage yet? :?: Citizen of US Minor Outlying Islands
Mark Evans
Are we at this stage yet? :?: I think a developers/users conference would be a good idea. The only problem being that the osCommerce team is very spread out so would need to try and make arrangements where the entire team could attend. It would also be useful if we could have some sort of sponsership where the event is sponsered by 1 or more companies or people?? blueline
being that people on this forums are from all over the world...I don't think this is a very realistic thing. I think it is a great idea, but people are busy, and most of us don't have the time to drop what we are doing and fly to another continent to talk osC with people face to face. I would love to do it, but I just don't think it's very realistic. Does anyone else feel this way? -Chris Chris Sullivan
Ian
I discussed the idea with Mattice of having some informal IRC sessions with users. If this is something that would be useful, let us know, and I'll put some work into arranging some date/times. BTW if emanresu wants to buy me a bottle of dog doon the toon, drop me a line. Are we at this stage yet? :?: Come on I really cant believe any one can think this?? I cant even get answers to simple basic functions of OScommerce so the chances of people jetting around the world is unthinkable as much as it is practicable. What would be nice is a UK section so we can discuss UK specific problems. I think thats part of my problem in that there are no UK developers and so anyone who knows how the checkout works does not exist in the UK. Even the live chat is very much a waste of time. I saw a rant from someone who said they were giving up and thought why?? surely you should carry on regardless but after 3 months work and a totally useless cart I can see where they are coming from. Interestingly I have just been mailed by a guy called Ian from the uk who has seen my plight so it does pay to persevere. I would just like to thank everyone who has tried to help I realise at times it IS difficult. But a face to face conference surely bill gates does not do that all the time??

(nee mackems) Are that might explain why a guy called Ian has offered to try and help me  I did not realise there was a Uk guy on the team. I have spent some time in the IRC live chat and merchant is usually about and a few others but there are so many who call for such simple advice that even I can help them out some times and no one replies before they leave in despair. How about setting some times and posting them into the forums perhaps the day before or even saying you will be in there in 2 or three hours time etc. I think this could work well. Well worth a try. mugitty
I think it might be workable if there was a posting on the boards (perhaps a new category "IRC Chat Schedule") as to a time that 'so and so' would be on the IRC at a given time. All of us who frequent the boards (instead of actually having a life) could then see when the scheduled chat was to be and make a pont of being there if we were interested. Additionally, if there was some specific subject that was to be covered, it could be identified in the post, so that the discussion wasn't derailed by people asking everything about everything when then subject matter for a given chat was to be "setting up shipping options" and not "how to get my thumbnails to show up", or "why my wife doesn't think I like her anymore". This "real-time" concept could seriously take this entire forum to the next level if properly controlled! ... if you want to REALLY see something that doesn't set up right out of the box without some tweaking, try being a Foster Parent! loxly
And some of us that REALLY don't have a life can even show up from the US in European time :) I would love "training" sessions and "Q & A", especially broken down into beginners, mid level and advanced sessions. I could even help with lots of the "beginner" sessions by now. The team could "interview" some of the more frequent and knowledgable posters on the boards to see if they are capable of leading a session, so the team wouldn't be responsible for every session. alonsoac
I don't think a real meeting will be attended by sufficient people to be useful for the colmmunity at large. That aside, the IRC sessions idea seems excellent, I can't wait to take part in them. Harald Ponce de Leon
We tried getting a developers room at FOSDEM, but were too late. Mattice and Christian were present this year. Did anyone here attend? , osCommerce
loxly
Wow, I have never been to Europe, but tickets to Brussels aren't that expensive from here. So I'd like to keep up on when next year's event is. Maybe we can get a group from the US to all leave form NYC together :) Debbie [no external urls in signatures please, kthanks]
