At some point I came across an excellent mod that I believe originated from the QT PRO contribution which involved dynamic dropdowns. In short, it allowed a second dropdown to be dependent on a first one and it works great....however, it only seems to work when ALL your products require a dropdown form input...but I have an engraving option on one of my products but the mod treats the 'text' input as a 'dropdown' input and of course this doesn't work. Has there been an update to the mod in recent history that I've missed that fixed this issue? If I'm not mistaken (and there's a good chance I am) the problem lies somewhere in the 'pad_base' files which define what is to happen when presented with the various options. Currently, the only one that works is for those products that have dependent attributes....checkboxes, radio buttons and text inputs are NOT addressed and are then rendered useless.
