Guest Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Hey there I was wondering if anyone knew where I can find the typical conversion rates for a specific industry, like Tea for us? Or if you happen to know what the general conversion rates are for businesses online, that would help too Thanks Ricardo Da Costa Co Founder of Yogic Chai

RhinoFish Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 right, not currency conversion, converting visitors into sales. there are too many variables for any guidelines to make sense. for example, if a site is rich in content and only offers a few products, they might be in your niche, but their conversion ratio would likely be low. if their prices were too high, it might also bo low. if they were a leader, it might be too high. none of these folks want to share their information with their competitors. the best way i know of is to use Google Analytics and share your data with them. the make the data anonymous and share it among similar niches. so you can tell where you stand among your peers, at least among the ones that have opted into data sharing with google analytics. any other data is tainted with biases, bragging, low population participation and other factors that make it useless as a benchmarking tool. GA's benchmarking is somewhat new and the data is limited, but in my opinion, it is very valuable. learn more here: http://www.google.com/support/googleanalyt...amp;topic=13909
mattb348 Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 Hey there I was wondering if anyone knew where I can find the typical conversion rates for a specific industry, like Tea for us? Or if you happen to know what the general conversion rates are for businesses online, that would help too Thanks Ricardo Da Costa Co Founder of Yogic Chai As stated in one of the replies to this post, it is pretty much impossible to give any sort of conversion rate numbers. There are indeed soooooo many variables, such as price, competition, and so on. I basically just do all my planning and calculations based on a 1% conversion rate (this seems to be what many of the top marketers like to use as a starting point). But this is definitely just a BASELINE to think about when planning your store & marketing plan. It very well could be higher or lower. I like to hope that it is higher though, otherwise it can be hard to make a profit if you are mainly doing paid advertising (like PPC) :)
Gubbanoa Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 I don't know about the tea sector...but I found lots of other interesting stuff. Data published on fireclick index - average conversion rates: Catalog 5.8% Software 3.9% Fashion and Apparel 2.3% Specialty 1.7% Electronics 0.50% Outdoor and Sports 0.40% Here's some dream cases: Lane Bryant Catalog 24.7% QVC 16.7% Oriental Trading Company 15.2% Blair.com 14.5% Jessicalondon.com 13.7% Symantec 13.5% Roamans 13.5% The Sportsman’s Guide 12.2% Christianbook.com 11.9% Lillian Vernon 11.8% Ref: http://www.internetretailer.com/dailyNews.asp?id=22889 I think Amazon got about 8%. My goal is near 4%. The industry average is ok to look at, but I think it's mostly up to your site.
nudylady Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 my conversion is 5%, bounce 30% from cpc ad.
