Guest Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Thanks, I was on Windows 1st and had no problems with the installation as it seemed to go through very quickly, however was not able to change some of the file permissions so had to change it to a Linux server instead. However, I now find that POST the FTP of the files to the root of the HTDOCS when I look to run the install it asks for all my SQL details which I provide and then click next, it sees the BD and then starts to create the tables and that is where it just stays for hours?
spooks Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Windows servers are supposed to work fully, but then so is vista!! IMHO If you go for windows you will keep finding odd things that simply wont work, or are a bugger to get working, go for Linux everytime. MrPhil Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Anyone know what the best is: Linux or Windows? For what purpose? For a server, I wouldn't touch Windoze with a ten foot pole. For desktop use by the Average Joe, it really doesn't matter that much. Once you get beyond the run-of-the-mill email, web browsing, and word processing, Linux starts to shine. Windows is loaded up with bells and whistles, and dumbed down to your average user.
