I'm looking at my options for a payment module. I spoke with Authorize.net and figured out that I need both a gateway account and a merchant account. The fees for both seem high for my little bit of business. I'm thinking that paypal only needs the one account and that even though their per transaction fee is slightly higher, the overall cost will be less for me. I don't expect to have more than a hundred customers a month, and that's if I'm lucky. Any input on any of the payment modules is appreciated.

Yes, paypal standard is the correct choice for shops with low volume. Once your sales increase, changing to paypal pro or authorize.net might save on the charges. You could also look at the new Amazon payment module. I know the rates are comparable to paypal but I don't know if they are higher or lower.
