calamares Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 maybe some 1 has explanation and solution for our problem with our osCommerce install, our email started receive lot of junk email after installing osCommerce to our server.... there must be some reason and way to protect more... thank you if some answers...
♥kymation Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Did you put your email address on your site? If you did, that's the reason. You should only use mail forms (e.g. Contact Us) for your customers to contact you. Another possibility is using the RFC standard email addresses (e.g. ). The spammers can guess those. Make your email address(es) unique to your store. Better change that email to a different one now. calamares Posted May 12, 2009 Author Posted May 12, 2009 ok strange because we added our email only in ADMIN section ..... offcourse we got junk email earlier but installing oscommerce speeded up junk mails still looking for possible problem with oscommerce..
MrPhil Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Are these junk emails being mailed from your site, or from the outside world? If the former, could a spammer or two have registered as customers (or even, not), and be using a "contact us" form to spam you? You may need to hack the code to install some kind of CAPTCHA system to minimize the chances of spambots writing to you. There may be a contribution somewhere for that (or to prevent unregistered guests from contacting you). If the latter (outside world), you must have your email address visible somewhere. Is your admin section not password protected? Or, maybe there's just been a surge of junk mail using the address that got out earlier, and it's just coincidence that you just installed osC.
FIMBLE Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 the only way the osc is going to be a vehicle for spam is from your cont_us page. install a captcha contribution to enhance your protection. Default osc does not show your email address. Access to the mail.php files are not accesable. Nic Sometimes you're the dog and sometimes the lamp post My Contributions
