Afferchild Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 I have been trying for the past 3 hours to get started with the web installation of this program. I thought this whole thing would be a piece of cake but I can't even get past the database server information. I get an error saying that "their was a problem connecting to the database server. I'm putting in the same information as I have for my ftp info, same hostname, username and password. Can anyone give me a clue as to what I could be doing wrong??
Guest Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 The database server information is almost definitely different to your ftp login info. For the database details you'll need to check in your hosting control panel
Afferchild Posted May 10, 2009 Author Posted May 10, 2009 I have my own dedicated server and I'm trying to set up OS Commerce on a client's domain. It's asking me for "database server" and I thought that would be the same as "hostname"....am I wrong with this??
Guest Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 For most people (but not all) the database server name is "localhost"
Afferchild Posted May 10, 2009 Author Posted May 10, 2009 I think I tried that but will try it again. I've just been banging my head on my desk for hours so maybe that did something! Is the username and password they're asking for the username and password I set up for the new database or the username and password for the domain itself??
Afferchild Posted May 10, 2009 Author Posted May 10, 2009 Scratch that last question! "localhost" worked, I'm in! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
