Help with existing osCommerce site

Hi everyone!

My first post here, but most definitely not my last. I will try to be detailed, but I really have no idea what I'm talking about.

I have taken over webdesign of the site designsdejour.us. Let me preface by saying that I started with what I (at least think I) know how to do. I didn't like the way site looked, so I made a whole new layout. I didn't like that the main nav had been done in flash, so I re-coded everything there. I didn't like the gallery and the photography, so I redid all those.. BEFORE I decided to tackle the database attributes.

Well, let me tell you, I logged on to the osCommerce admin page and my jaw dropped. What beautiful options! I was able to alter product descriptions, easily update the database! Simplicity! And NOW I see that it will generate galleries too, and I can use my new images and get pretty much the same effect as the thumbnail galleries I just created. I will be migrating those over soon as i get the meat and potatoes of the site working.

Here are my first major issues -

1) I don't know what version of osCommerce I'm using, so i don't know which forum to post in.

2) Which php file?? do I update as the default product page? Is there a way to tell from the generated html files? Then I can give osCommerce credit and do what I need to do.

3) There seems to be something referencing OliveCart, was that used too? Why would they have used both?

4) Can anyone recommend where to start understanding what some of these php files are? I'm pretty sure there are about 300 and I'm pretty sure they're not all being used.

If you go to the main page you can see my layout and what I've done, if you click on an actual product from any of the galleries it takes you to the pages that were generated. That's the old design/css/database. There is yet a third set under the inventory pages that was coded in flash. I'm ignoring that!

Thanks for any input!!

BUT it sounds like u have a template, unfortunatly templates contain non-standard often out-dated code that is often somewhat modified from the core version, so are impossible to support except by the template writer, I suggest you speak to them.

The beginning of answers! Thank you sooo much!

Version - osCommerce 2.2-MS2

Good deal.. I can move this to the appropriate forum if that'd help.

If I have a template, I seriously wouldn't mind starting over, but does that mean I'm going to have to do the database over again?

Also, really I like the information on the pages that are already up and they appear to be functioning properly. I would just like to be able to alter the layout of them and the css. Is there a template php page that generates the html files with the products? I would need to call forth the elements in the css file within that html template or php template or whatever I'm looking for? Which is my precise issue.. I don't have a clue what I'm looking for, or where to begin to try to find it. If I can find that template, I can input the css around the php, and that should work properly, right?

I'm not sure how to close topics and I don't see an edit button. Thank you all for your help!!!

I actually just decided to go in and make a whole new database. I have the old one, so I can copy most of the configuration, only I'll be able to follow the tutorial and change the parts I want to the way I would like them. I figure I can copy and paste, might take a little longer, but I will have the experience of doing this top to bottom. So far I've learned a lot - how to set permissions and what they mean, how to use the webserver interface, etc. I had a successful install and configuration is going well thus far. I look forward to being able to post my working store in the forum!
