if you have tried everything, it must be the server.

Try installing Xammp and then install the store localhost and try there if it works then you will know

If you have a clean installation (not modified) it should really be working fine. I agree with the previous response, but it wouldnt help you with your issue at all. But try this: Download a NEW copy of the oscommerce installation and try to install it, maybe some of your files are corrupted. Otherwise i havent got a clue at all otherwise that the problem is at the server side, have you tried to get a response from the provider?

You do get this message if you do not browse to an image during the product insert/maintain process.

How big is the inage you are trying to upload?

Do you have trouble changing any product descriptions? Are any changes you make in the admin area being set or are they not ?

Chris

Better to be looked over than overlooked!

i ve tried :

1.chmod 777 the image directory,

Does your host (Yahoo!) permit 777 permissions? That gives write access to the directory to everyone else sharing your server, and can be a major security problem. Have you tried 755 permissions? If that doesn't work, 775? Some systems are set up strangely (ownership of directories, files, processes) and require 'group' or even 'world' to be writable so that PHP or Apache can write, but good systems are set up so that only the owner (you) needs write permission. Some systems run security software that will block attempts to use a directory that's "world writable". Maybe that's what's happening to you?

@clrob : changes made in the admin area are being set!

@ PHIL : yes yahoo does permit 777 permissions, though ive not tried 755..but i guess 777 is neday better than 755, or shall i try with 755 only?..and Phil actually i did not understand the whole thing you said..what am i supposed to ..everything is WORLD writable which should be!

i am actually at the end of my wits now..pleaaaaaaase

@FIMBLE : hey Fimble, i did try

doing it on my local machine (localhost) using WAMP server..and it worked..the images did upload..but what does this mean?

- is it yahoo's problem?..i mean a change of server will do?

- or since WAMP is a windows based server, and yahoo is on LINUX..ahhh m gtng confused...plzzz do sumthng

@ABREMEN : now ill try your solution..i just hope it works......

The difference between 755 and 777 is that for 'group' and 'other' ('world') users on a computer system, 755 gives read-only access to your directories, while 777 enables anyone to write to (create, edit, erase) your files. This is generally a Bad Thing. You need Apache (server) and PHP (language) to be able to write in your directories -- you don't necessarily want the whole world writing!

Some servers are set up such that PHP and/or Apache run as your 'group' or even as 'other' (as far as user IDs go in a Unix-type system), and in order for PHP to write a file to your directory, you have to give write permission to it (as group or other). Thus, permissions 775 or even 777 may be required. Unfortunately, unless you're very careful about permissions in other areas of your server, this may leave you open to malicious code from other users (including accounts that have been hacked) to overwrite your stuff. In some cases, visitors (using a browser) may be able to do bad things to you.

Other servers are set up so that PHP and Apache appear to the system to be running as "you", and can write files to directories so long as the permissions are 755. This locks out everyone else (5 is read-only). These servers may also have security systems running that forbid access to a directory (lock out everyone, including you) if its permissions are 777.

My recommendation is to try 755 first. If certain functions in osC don't work because PHP is reporting that it is unable to write to a certain directory, try increasing the permissions on that directory to 775. If still no-go, try 777.

What is the permission level on the images you uploaded by FTP?

777.

@PHIL : in that case, as i have already tried 777, 775 or 755 wont work at all in uploading the images, right?

Download admin/index.php and open it in your text editor.

Underneath this line:

<body marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" topmargin="0" bottommargin="0" leftmargin="0" rightmargin="0" bgcolor="#FFFFFF">

Add this:

<?php echo DIR_WS_CATALOG_IMAGES; ?>

Upload it again to the admin directory and go to www.your_store.com/admin in a browser.

What does the path to the images directory read?

hey spax, i did this, but after doing this i din knoe what you meant, itried uploading the image, still the same!.what path are you talking about...please explain!

This is a process of elimination so lets see if osC is looking for the images directory in the right place. By adding

<?php echo DIR_WS_CATALOG_IMAGES; ?>

to your admin/index.php file, when you call that file in a browser, it will print to the screen the path to your images directory or the path it is looking for at least.

If that path is incorrect, we know that is the problem. On the other hand, if it is ok, we know to look elsewhere for the problem so eliminating one cause.
