magicandmischief182 Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I have been informed that we are changing names, so I'd like to move our web address to another website. Is it possible to do this without losing all the products/attributes that are currently on the website? How can I forward the current website to the new one? So when someone goes to our current web address they are forwarded to the new website. I might have a few more questions but can't think of them presently.
web-project Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 How can I forward the current website to the new one? using DNS servie you can forward from one domain to another. Please read this line: Do you want to find all the answers to your questions? click here. As for contribution database it's located here! 8 people out of 10 don't bother to read installation manuals. I can recommend: if you can't read the installation manual, don't bother to install any contribution yourself. Before installing contribution or editing/updating/deleting any files, do the full backup, it will save to you & everyone here on the forum time to fix your issues. Any issues with oscommerce, I am here to help you.
reggiewjr1 Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Yes, it is possible without losing all your product info etc... Hard to give more exact instructions without knowing other details regarding the hosting situation... are you moving or keeping this all on the same server under the same admin root login etc.... If your not moving it should be relatively simple (of course back up the files and DB FIRST!!!!) but just move all the files from olddomain.com/catalog to newdomain.com/catalog, update your admin set up for emails and logo's etc and your basically done... as the DB on the same server can be accessed from any domain on that server under that root admin login hence and theirs no need to move it... If your changing servers it's a little more involved....as you have to export the DB and its Structure then recreate it and import the data on the new server... I've never had to do it personally, I'm sure someone else can correct me if I'm wrong...?
