Gaelic Crossings - Live debut next week, feedback please?

Ok, I've almost finished all I need. I am missing my shipping information and haven't changed the default page text.

I have modified the colors, look and feel, and buttons. It is still fairly similar in layout to a stock OsC store.

I would appreciate your thoughts on the layout, colors, etc.

Text is too big on the category pages. I'm on 1024x768 so I can only imagine what it looks like on 800x600.

I hope you're planning on adding pics of your products. It's gonna be a tough sell without them.

Thanks, I'll play with the text. And yes, as soon as the manufacturers get them to me! :)

Hi

Like the site...I actually am Scottish and live there.....

Do you find a large demand for 'Scottish' stuff over in the US and Canada?

Will this kinda thing make you rich? (if you dont mind me asking...)

Cheers and good luck...

I think it's a bit plain. Perhaps some photographic images in the header would chear me up a bit... :)

Mmmhh... I smell competition ;)

It's standard Osc with a stylesheet change and a masthead banner that doesn't do the site any good...

I know there are some changes in the underlying code, but you've really done nothing to the look of the site...

Am I even looking at the right site ?

What do you need? A full graphical makeover! Some major stylesheet changes!

Something. It has no "X-factor" at all...

No competition, just a general interest

I don't think it will make me rich. I'll be adding a dancer supply store and a music book store to the site, and if it makes $1000 a month I'll be ecstatic.

As far as your comments burt, I have no graphical capabilities, and do not have the money to pay a graphic artist (Yet). I realize I don't have an 'x' factor currently. :sob:

Yes it's a basic site ... but I have to disagree with Burt on the colorscheme. Green is a very hard color to work with, and sofar you haven't done a bad job at all. Try adding some different tints and see how it works out.

You should ease up on the huge text in your top graphic, add some life to it by using a (combination of) photo(s) ... make it more appealing. Further more loose the standard graphics (like the write review pic) and loose the borders inside the several boxes ... they remind me of windows ... look it's snowing outside

If you keep the light green background, make sure you turn your images into transparent gifs. The white background is a real setback. :(

Good luck :)

Well, I have contracted a person now to redesign the logo and boxes. So, the site launch is moved back a week or two.

How do you change an image into a transparent gif? (You're talking to a coder here who saw Paintshop pro once and thought "Neat!")

You start with a transparent canvas and cut off all the background crap around the product image. Then save it with whatever indexcolor matches your background (for smooth edges) That's all there's to it.

I ussually use Photoshop or Gimp and there are numerous on line tutorials for them..
