Users Online in Footer

Hi,

 

Can someone please help me on how can I add a simple "users online" count in the footer section?

 

I want it to just say: Users Online: <number>

 

and I want to add it in the place of "requests since".

 

I know how to remove the "requests since" so just help me with adding this info in the footer please.

You could install the contribution

 

Whos Online 3.4

 

And use the code in there to display the the no of users.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm hoping for a solution that won't mess with the database. All contribution addons for whos online had database updates which I'm looking to avoid if there is another way to do it.

 

If someone can help me since my php knowledge is not not very advanced I would appreciate it.

 

If there is a php code in the default package that already shows the online users then if someone knows where is it and how I can use it in the footer section that would do it.
