Downloads after purchase, question

Hi, I am trying to allow for a download after purchase. The store is not 'live' as we want to have this working first. If anyone can help. I would appreciate it.

I have created a "test.wpd" file and put it in the download directory, enabled permissions to 777 on the pub directory, created product, and product attribute option of download, and a value of yes.

The product shows up in the store under the Test category, just fine,but when I follow through the mock store purchase there is never any link to the download file. Can anyone tell me what I am missing. To test for yourself: http://templeknightsproductions.com/store/index.php

 

does this not work when in 'demo store' mode? or am I missing something to set.

Make sure that you go in to the admin section and set the point at which the download becomes available localization>order status, then make sure the order has been set set past this point.

I've just discovered, that you have to order status PENDING to have 'downloads=true'

I check the localization>order status, and the settings are:

Pending [default] publicstatus checked, download status checked

processing - two checkmarks

delivered - two checkmarks

cancelled - first checked, second x

preparing [paypal standard] - two checkmarks

 

(our paypal isn't hooked in yet, but will be shortly).

 

I still get through the whole process and no chance to download at any point.

Are you sure you have enable download set to true in the configuration>download section?

 

If it is set to true, you also need to have a product with a product attribute setup to link to the downloadable file.

enable download is true

download by redirect is false (but setting to true didn't change the outcome, so i set it back)

expiry days is 7, max downloads is 1

 

re product attribute. the filename wasn't in the section. It was there when I first posted, as it is in one of my screen captures that I couldn't upload into the post, but I must have accidentally edited it out during one of the subsequent edits to try and fix.

 

Thank you for your help. Too bad there wasn't a spot that outlined the steps in order to set up a downloadable product. I seem to have to go all over the place to set various elements, and then in to cpanel to upload the files. After the kinks are out, I will have to document/teach someone with a lot less web experience than I how to use the system.

I'm not sure I can easily recreate what was necessary. I will try though.

Yeah when I setup my downloads I went with 4days and 3 downloads, I figure if the person who purchases it was going to share it with friends he would just make a copy and share it that way, and not share his account info so having more times to download makes less headaches for me with disconnections mid download etc. It removes a download each time the begin the download.
