Missing download link

After that I have read hundreds of posts that describe how to fix/install downloadable products with its problems such as missing links, links that does not appear after payment or does not appear after switching the order status from "Pending" to "Delivered" manually in the order section of ADMIN, and that I used several hours trying to solve these problems without sucess I finally came up with an idea - I install a fresh shop in another folder just to see if the problem occur or if I can compare files with each other...And now everything works !

The best solution for newbies is not to try to repair an old shop, better save the data base from the old and install a new shop in another folder, then after every adjustments just point your domain to the new folder - Takes no time, instead of ripping off your hair in frustration !

If you install a stock shop this procedure below will work (Thanks Bill Kullum)

1. Enable downloads in the admin/configure/downloads section of your store,

2. Upload your product to the cataloag/downloads folder as a zip file (using no spaces in the name)

3. Create a products page as you would normally for any product you sell

4. Go to admin/catalog/product attributes page. Under "Product Options", create a new option called "Download" or 5. something that you and your customer will recognize.

5. In the same Product Attributes page, create a Option Value of "YEs" or "Only" or whatever.

6. Still in the Product Attributes page, at the bottom of the page, you will find a drop down menu of each of your products. 7. Find the product that you wish to offer as a download and select it.

8. Under the Option Name, choose "Download" or whatever you used in step 4 above.

9. Under Option Value, choose "yes" or whatever you used in step 5 above.

10. Set your price for the product or leave blank.

11. Skip the Prefix section.

12. Type in the exact name of the download file as it is saved in your catalog/downloads folder as you did in step 2 above. 13. Remember, no spaces in the filename and include the .zip extention.

14. Set the number of days the purchased download will be available to your customer.

15. Set the maximum amount of downloads tries you wish to grant to your customer. You should at the very least give your customer 2 tries, in case something happens to thier connection.

15. Finally, click the "insert" button at the far right.

16. Your product is now available for download.

Your customers will find their download in their account right under "order history". Perhaps it is a good idea to inform that they will be recieving a ZIP file with the content ? Also that they in some cases need to press a button to return to your site if you use paypal. I have "auto return" on and everything works fine with payments but I found out that there were a lot of customers that shut down their browser after payment was completed at Paypal. Just find the module you are using and edit the file (open it and find the text you recognize in the "live" shop and change it to be more informative)

Just found out another thing that may help if you are a newbie to this. In addition to what I wrote earlier, also check in ADMIN at "Localization" and "Order status" that it is set to accept downloads on "Processing" and "Delivered" since it does not matter if you manually set the order status of the order itself in "Delivered" mode if the order status in the configuration is set to not complete the order.
