New to This Oscommcers

Right,

Hello everyone, hope your all well.

Ok I've got a well known idea about web design and can build websites throw dream weaver and front page editor. photoshop ect.

I'm wanting to learn oscommcers.. where do i start, how do i make a custom template and what is the easy way to learn, If you can point me in the right directions or even give me hints and tips while i try then that would be grate :)

First of all learn to be patient and read through the forums as this very question has been asked and answered hundreds of times in these forums.

If you know about building templates then you should be able to do this.

You will have to have a level of proficiency in php and mysql.

Download the store and get started.

Load up the code and get it FULLY functional BEFORE you do any modifications.

Backup the entire store and db.

Once you see the code and the html generated in view source you should be able to adapt what ever layout you have in mind.

I suggest not to format the coding style because you will need help and I, as well as many others, will only be able to help if the code is stock code. I am speaking specifically of the php code.

Back up often. I backup every day, sometimes more, my db, local, and live files.

There are template systems but be wary, I personally find them to only increase the learning curve and increase the possibility of errors. If you do go with one of these contributions (the template systems as they are called) get help in the contribution forum for that system.

Please allow me to vent a little here on these template systems.

I have wasted hours helping folks that finally tell me they are using some one of the so called template systems and I do not appreciate others wasting my time as I can do that quite well all on my own.

Read Learn and bask in glory when things work well.

Once you have your store working come back here and help another beginner.
