Hello everyone!

I have been looking around for an osCommerce shopping cart templates. My budget is not that big, so my question is how much would you spend in buying osCommerce shopping cart templates?

I have found two site that offers osCommerce shopping cart templates. They both have professional looking templates but their prices vary.

Do you think I should go for the cheap one or the expensive one?

There is more u must consider.

Your best bet is only get templates where support is provided & they have regular updates, but most do niether.

Most use outdated versions of osC often requiring register globals 'on' a security risk that may prevent u using template with some hosts!

osC contribs are written for the core version and are often not compatible with templates which often use somewhat modified code.

This forum is for support of core osC versions only, so u will need to get support for your store from the template provider.

Avoid Template Monster and all resellers, unless they are willing to give you support.

You could learn to design your own site.

You could pay someone to make you a site.

Both these CAN work out cheaper than buying a bug-ridden template that maybe 1000 other stores use.

Gee, I was just going to reply and I see that the original poster has been banned!

Anyway, for those with a similar question, I installed osCommerce through my hosting company, Bell Canada. They provided a choice of four templates during the set-up. At the time I had no idea what I was doing, but now I feel lucky, since the whole template thing seems like a can of worms otherwise.

I will admit that I have had the odd problem installing contributions and modules, and it may very well be that the template altered the original code. The idea of learning to modify the "look" of the site oneself is not a bad one. Perhaps there is advice about this on the forum - I haven't looked.

Another alternative, which I can't endorse because I haven't tried it myself, is a free system presented on WPosC.com, which allows one to install WordPress templates (themes) on an osC site. WordPress is a popular and easily-configurable open-source blog software.

Good luck!

Avoid Template Monster

I second that, My partner bought an osC template from the monster and it has been nothing but a pain in the rear.

for those wondering the same question.

my advice from one noob to another is AVOID ALL TEMPLATES just use osC and learn what your doing there, then later once you know the system if you feel you need to look into templates, the have at it. buying a template to start with just adds one more thing you have to get to know before your site is ready for the public.
