ktaylor Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Our webhost recently moved our site to a new server. Since that time, we have been unable to load product pictures. We either get the error "upload failed" or the picture appears to upload but is not there when you go to the store. Tech support is telling us: This is because php is running as "apache" and not as the oner of the files. You will have to upload the images with either FTP or with the file manager in the new Plesk control panel. Is that possible or do they not have a clue?
web-project Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 simply chmod the "images" folder to 777 Please read this line: Do you want to find all the answers to your questions? click here. As for contribution database it's located here! 8 people out of 10 don't bother to read installation manuals. I can recommend: if you can't read the installation manual, don't bother to install any contribution yourself. Before installing contribution or editing/updating/deleting any files, do the full backup, it will save to you & everyone here on the forum time to fix your issues. Any issues with oscommerce, I am here to help you.
ktaylor Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 simply chmod the "images" folder to 777 That worked! Thank you! Does chaning the permissions to 777 cause a security issue?
germ Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Alex will probably say something to the effect, "Not if the server is setup correctly". I'm not going to argue that point. But the cold hard fact is this: With your images folder at 777 permissions it's only a matter of time until you get hacked on probably 99% of the servers out there. They shouldn't be higher than 755. Your site could even be getting hacked as you read this, or it may not happen until next year. There are myriad web robots who scan the Internet 24/7/365 for such vulnerabilities, and can hack you up in a heartbeat. :o If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you. Ok, I have changed the permissions to 755 and the upload is still working. 777 didn't sound safe!
