So_Not_an_HTML_genius Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Hi all, Okay, so our store is running slow. There isn't much our server can do because it is only the store/oscommerce software. So, I read some forum posts here and there is one by someone named Bobby who talks about turning on the cache. He mentions also changing the directory and putting it "ABOVE". I don't know what that means. So, I think I am smart and turn on my cache ability in our oscommerce admin and low and behold - SOMEONE ELSE'S STORE CATEGORIES SHOW UP IN MY STORE!!! If you clicked on them, they took you to someone else's site!!! WHAT ON EARTH IS THAT? How could someone's store be in my cache folder??? So, is there a way to use the cache feature safely??? Is there also a way to get rid of this other person's site from my website? Is it even on my site??? Does a host use the same spot for the websites they host and somehow you can tap into someone's cache?? Has my site been hacked??? Anyhelp would be great! In the mean time, the cache is off (false) and therefore the store will be slower. This was scary to say the least! Thanks, Kelly
spooks Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 u are using tmp on a shared server, as all sites share the same tmp u get that. 1. Create a folder in your root directory(public html) called my_cache. Set 755 permission on that folder. 2. In your osc admin panel set cache to true 3. In your cache directory insert this /home/my_site/public_html/my_cache/ change my_site accordingly ps are u usibg STS? that makes things run slow. So_Not_an_HTML_genius Posted April 25, 2009 Author Posted April 25, 2009 Thank you for the help. I am not sure what STS is? I will make the other changes. That makes perfect sense now...what a crazy thing that was. If you can just let me know what STS is that would be great. Thanks again, Kelly

So_Not_an_HTML_genius Posted April 25, 2009 Author Posted April 25, 2009 Hi again, I am using the template setup that oscommerce came with. Nothing else added, nothing fancy...I think that is what you mean. Also, just to double check, you did mean home/my_site/public_html/my_cache and not my site name Before home? not this: my_site/home/public_html/my_cache Just double checking. Thanks again! Kelly
