kevarendt Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 In the admin tool, I have added descriptions to my jewelry, but when looking at my site, I only see a partial description. Once I select the item or click on details, I don't see any description. Can somebody help me please. Is there a way to see the full description for my product? Thanks in advance.

kevarendt Posted April 26, 2009 Author Posted April 26, 2009 Hi Jim. Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, when I selected my footer.php file and then clicked edit, I was not able to get a cursor into the box to edit anything. I tried, but nothing happened and the only button outside of the box was a 'Cancel' button. Also, I didn't find anything in my footer.php file that showed any Copyright © or href="http://www.nuwonder.com/conditions.php" etc. Any other ideas? Thanks again for your help. It is greatly appreciated. I am not a developer or programmer by any means, but I am sure I can do this. I used to test web applications and software, so I have a little knowledge. I wish this OSCommerce thing was easier, but it is probably me. Cheers. Kevin Ignore the above, I wasn't able to edit it to fix it. On your website. kevarendt Posted April 26, 2009 Author Posted April 26, 2009 Hello again. I should also mention that I just bought my laptop about 3 weeks ago and it has Vista Premium on it. Most of the applications on here are temporary only (free trial version), so maybe I don't have the correct program to edit. Is there another way I can do this? Ugh! K Hi Jim. Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, when I selected my footer.php file and then clicked edit, I was not able to get a cursor into the box to edit anything. jhande Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Definately need some type of editing program that will open PHP files. Unfortunately I don't and haven't used any of the free ones as I'm using Adobe Web Bundle. If memory serves correctly here's a few that have been recommended: Crimson Editor, Notepad ++ and one recommended by a college professor - NetBeans 6.5 IDE. Oh, oh... my bad. Actually you won't see URL addresses in your footer.php file. You'll probably see instead some form of code such as -<?php echo FOOTER_TEXT_BODY; ?>. Load your site in your browser (I use IE 7.0) then click on View > Source. Scroll down to the bottom and go past this - <!-- footer //--> You'll see some code starting with - <em>Copyright © 2009 That's what you want to look for in one of the editing programs. I also forgot to mention that it's going to be difficult for anyone here to resolve many issues you might have. You're using a template and those usually have major changes done to them that don't match anything in osC. - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -
kevarendt Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 Thanks again for your help. I decided to go with a template because I don't know much about programming. kuai Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 see the copyright info pertaining to "powered by osCommerce". Here's the link and some info from that. http://www.oscommerce.com/about/copyright "The osCommerce copyright announcement displayed on the Catalog side of osCommerce Online Merchant can, however, be modified, and even be removed. Please note that the osCommerce Online Merchant Administration Tool copyright announcement must still exist regardless if the default osCommerce-copyrighted Administration Tool theme has been modified. The separate text "Powered by osCommerce", or similar text, displayed on both Administration Tool and Catalog modules is optional to have displayed."
jhande Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 "The osCommerce copyright announcement displayed on the Catalog side of osCommerce Online Merchant can, however, be modified, and even be removed. While that is true, it has been standard practice when asking for help in this forum that the copyright be displayed. - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -
jhande Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Thanks again for your help. I decided to go with a template because I don't know much about programming. This is going to be more difficult than I imagined. Hey Kevin, In order to make modifications to a standard osC install, you really don't need to be a programmer. Templates are fine, if you can get one that does what you want it too and actually works. I have made all kinds of changes to my installation of osC with just the "basic" knowledge of HTML and CSS. The most difficult part was finding the contributions that I needed and wanted and which ones actually work. If you arm yourself with a PHP/HTML editor and something like Winmerge you're all set. It's just a matter of "carefully" following the directions from the contributions while making the changes. As long as you keep a backup of your latest working files, you won't get into too much trouble. Good luck! ;) - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -
kuai Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 While that is true, it has been standard practice when asking for help in this forum that the copyright be displayed. I just wanted to clear up the previous post that stated "must have". I've seen many topics and posts on this issue(copyright), but it seems as though everyone avoids the topic of copyright like the plague. Does that mean that although my store doesn't retain the typical osC flavor, that I can't get help? I created my store with the help of this forum, the knowledge base, and trial and error, and 2 books. I greatly appreciate every response for a question regardless of whether or not it was useful. I didn't use a modified template for this reason. I will have to disagree with you. I don't mind helping someone if I can help them. If the individual had something other than osC, I think they would be elsewhere seeking help. However, if the store is highly modified with various templates and the like, that changes the way osC performs, any amount of help may not be of any use anyway. I don't want to step on anyone's toes here. I just haven't seen a statement concerning "standard practice." Even though my store is now online, the original is still in the testing environment using xampp. When I want to try an add-on, it is done in the testing environment first. And besides, Wordpad works just fine on the local machine for php files.

Granted, the copyright issue isn't so much an issue when asking for help, but it is required when posting in the review my site section. I didn't intend to offend or disagree with anyone. I was simply pointing out that in the past it has been prefered to display the copyright. It is harder to resolve problems with templates as they are sometimes drastically altered. I try helping whoever I can, whenever I can whether osC or template. - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -
