Thumbnails that are a portion of original image

Hi all, I'm listing my products in a thumbnail grid view with the "Product Listing Enhancements, Thumbnails & Manufacturer Headings V1.8" add-on. Problem is my images are different sizes which makes the thumbnail grid view look rather messy...

 

 

I'd like to have each thumbnail the same size, however I don't want to stretch/squash the images I'd like to use just a portion of the image as a thumbnail.

 

Is there a way to automatically take a 100x60 sample of an image and use it as the thumbnail? Or alternatively I could do this manually and simply use 1 image as a thumbnail which I have sampled myself and then use a 2nd complete image as the main product image. How would I go about implementing this?
