freeoscommerce Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Hi, I've been working for some time now putting together a free osCommerce templates website and I would like to get some some feedback/ideas/thoughts on what I should do with the site, whether or not people think it's a good idea and has demand, etc. Any constructive feedback is appreciated... I'm a freelance web designer/developer and I've been using osCommerce and CMS Made Simple for years, have implemented both in solutions for my clients and really love and appreciate both platforms. I've been developing for some time now (I'm a single dad and only get an hour or so a day to work on it, but have been plugging away) I've been developing a website to offer free templates for osCommerce (version 3), CMS Made Simple, and also unique packages where I have integrated the two into one template, so anyone can easily have a website up and running in an hour with osCommerce and a built in CMS system. The website is www.freeoscommerce.com The website took a long time to set up (mainly since my time is so limited). I was really excited about it for a long time since I want to give back to the community that has helped me, and also admittedly I hope that people who want further modifications to their templates might contact me for business (the few ads are on the site just to try to pay for the hosting bandwidth). Anyway, I'm at a point now where I've got a few templates up and can get lots of new ones up quickly since the core framework is built, but I'm admittedly feeling a little burnt out on the project since it's taken so much time (that I could have been using to make money on other projects) and also since I've never spoken with anyone about the project so I don't really have any sense of how good/bad/useful/useless it might be. So, long story short, is this a good idea? The free version 3 templates? Is there a demand for it? How about the integrated templates that package osCommerce with CMS? Is that a good idea? Should I continue with the site? Or is it a waste of time? If I should continue with it, any ideas on how I should spread the word or where I should take it? Again, any constructive feedback is really appreciated. The website is www.freeoscommerce.com Thanks
raamee Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Hi, Your templates and website look very nice and I was happy to use your contribution. However, I ran into some errors when installing the template I downloaded. It seems that other users experienced the same problem. discussion of freeoscommerce template errors Notice: Undefined index: configuration in /homepages/12/d280005379/htdocs/glassart/store/admin/includes/applications/templates/templates.php on line 45 Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /homepages/12/d280005379/htdocs/glassart/store/admin/includes/applications/templates/templates.php:45) in /homepages/12/d280005379/htdocs/glassart/store/admin/includes/functions/general.php on line 46 I am unfamiliar with osc v3 templates, so solving these errors would help alot and bring your contribution to a place where novice users will want to use. yung23 Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Hi, Same error I am getting...is there any idea? I see this same issue everywhere regarding osCommerce 3 templates.. when the heck will it be ready ? ps.. you've been hacked freeoscommerce guy..
jhande Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Hummm... FREE ??? I seen 2 free osC 2.2 templates out of 26. Of those 26, 9 don't seem so modified that they would need STS installed. Out of the 18 templates for osC 3, 1 was free. Again, 7 of which seem based on a stock osC layout and not changed all that much. $5.00 for a template is very reasonable, if they intergrate without a hitch. I have heard good and bad things regarding installing the STS contibution. One of which is there "might" be problems with other installed contributions, so I opt'ed not to. Someday I'll get my site "layed out" and themed the way I want it by playing with the exsisting code and contributions. This post seems more like an advertisement than a request for an opinion. But that's just my thoughts and what do I know. - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -
